Have we truly outdone ourselves? Only you can be the judge!
Burundi: Maramyva hails from a hill with the same name and is processed in a familiar place... Nkanda Washing Station. Like many great Peregrine coffees before it, this wonderful coffee was purchased from our friend Pierre Nzeyimana and his 3 sons. They have been a reliable source of Burundian coffee in Nkanda for years. We have purchased from Nkanda each year for the past 5. It is an honor to support their ventures here and uplift the community through this yearly purchase.
Burundi: Malted Maramyva (of course) takes Burundi: Maramyva and ages it inside of a freshly-drained rye barrel. A special thanks to Wood's High Mountain Distillery for their collaboration yet again. These coffees would not be possible without their delicious whiskeys.
Here's what we're tasting:
Chocolate Malt. This note brings a rich, velvety sweetness reminiscent of dark chocolate, complemented by toasty, malted grain notes. The resulting cup is almost creamy in mouthfeel with hints of caramelized sugar.
Cherrywood. In this coffee, there's a subtle, fruity smokiness to the coffee, evoking the essence of aged cherrywood. This adds tremendously to the aromatic finish that adds depth and complexity to the cup.
Merlot. Like with any of our past whiskey or rye-aged coffees, there's always a note distinctly boozy. In this coffee, it most presents as winey, because of the deep sweetness that is almost grape-like.
You're going to love the newest rye-aged coffee from Peregrine!
