Cupping Notes
Well, y'all... the old saying (that I actually made up right now) rings true... "every new Burundi natural is our new favorite Burundi natural".
This coffee is fantastic. If you're a fan of the deeper, darker, more syrupy naturals, you're gonna love it.
Here's what we're tasting:
Raspberry. Raspberry is a favorite for us! In a natural-processed coffee, raspberry typically indicates a coffee being "bright" and sweet. Raspberries are also known for their tartness, which means this note suggests a vibrant but welcomed acidity.
Lime. Pairing so nicely with both the last note and the next, we were pleased to find lime being a prominent note in this cup. This distinctly citric note really adds a crisp liveliness to the flavor profile that cuts through the deep berry and cola notes.
Cola. Cola is an extremely attractive note to us here. Cola is effervescent, but also syrupy and sweet. You'll find a lot of cola-like aspects in this coffee. There's a very satisfying, syrupy body that just keeps you coming back time and time again.

Farming Notes
Burundi is back at Peregrine, thanks again to our partners at Homage Coffee Source in Dallas. We want to give special thanks specifically to Jake Smith and his giving us access to direct trade connections in East Africa. This is our fourth year working with him and his team to provide excellent coffees from the producers in Burundi.
Remera is processed at Umuco Station (located in Kayanza Province), a hub for small producers. Umuco Station is owned by BSS (Burundi Seeds Specialty) and the team of Juste Picasso Nduwayo, Zephyrin Banzubaze, and Jeremi Nakimuhana. The station is managed by Noel Twagirayezu. At Umuco, some 900 farmers bring their crops for processing.
Thanks to Homage Coffee Source, we are able to pay these farmers well above the industry standard for their hard work and dedication to quality.
Here’s a bit about Remera directly from Burundi Seeds Specialty.
“Located in the picturesque Muruta Commune, Kayanza, Burundi, Remera Hill rises to [2,200 meters] bordering the stunning Kibira National Forest.
The name Remera originates from the Kirundi word “Umuremera,” meaning African plum (Prunus Africana), a medicinal tree renowned for its healing properties. This hill is adorned with numerous African plum trees, hence its name.
Remera Hill Coffee, a Bourbon Mayaguez 139 variety, is known for its vigor, high productivity, and exceptional cup quality.
Did you know? Remera Hill is not only a coffee haven but also a tourist attraction, boasting royal tombs of two former Burundian kings! It’s also neighboring other notable hills like Busambo, Ruvumu, Buziraguhindwa, Nyakibari, and Mpfunda.”
