This is going to be a winner for lovers of Ethiopian coffee!

Guji Gigesa is an organically-grown, Grade 1 coffee from Gigesa, a small town in the Guji Region.

Not to mention, it’s a fruit BOMB!

Here’s what we’re tasting:

Cherry Limeade. This note represents a juicy sweetness with a hint of deep red fruit complexity, reminiscent of candied cherry or cherry syrup… all paired with citrusy brightness that lifts the cup, adding a refreshing tartness and a crisp, mouthwatering acidity.

Citra Hops. Citra Hops are indicative of a lively, punchy acidity in the cup. It can be described as being reminiscent of grapefruit, lime, or orange peel, all while bringing a crisp and refreshing sharpness. Complexity!

Red Wine. When we tasted red wine in this cup, we were speaking to a smooth, full-bodied mouthfeel with a hint of drying tannins. This creates a structured and lingering cup at the finish.

Farming Notes

Gigesa is a small town in the Danbi Uddo Kebele, near Shakiso in Ethiopia’s Guji Zone.
The Gigesa washing station, named after the town, sources cherries from 850 local farmers, each cultivating between 2-5 hectares of farmland at elevations above 1,800 meters.

Upon arrival at the washing station, freshly harvested cherries are first placed in a floatation tank to separate lower-quality fruit. They are then rested in the shade for 3-5 hours to allow surface moisture to evaporate before being evenly spread on raised drying beds. Throughout the drying process, the cherries are carefully monitored and agitated to ensure uniform drying and prevent over-fermentation. The natural drying stage at Gigesa typically takes 2-3 weeks.

The Gigesa washing station is certified organic under both NOP and EU standards, ensuring sustainable and high-quality production.
