Cupping Notes
We’re beyond excited about this brand-new special offering from familiar friends in Nicaragua!
Finca Idealista’s Maracaturra Nanolot is bursting with unique flavors you’ll only find in this exotic variety.
Here’s what we’re tasting:
Cinnamon Roll. Silky texture. Complexity of spice notes. Creamy sweetness. Right off the bat, we were reminded most of a cinnamon roll, hot out of the oven. When you have the real (homemade) deal, you know it. It’s rich, buttery, and oh-so-sweet.
Cookies ‘n Cream. Playing even more off of the deep, indulgent notes, I was reminded personally of my favorite flavor of ice cream, Cookies ‘n Cream. There’s a particular brand of chocolate cookie (often dubbed “America’s cookie”) that this coffee tastes a lot like. Creamy mouthfeel and chocolatey goodness made it a no-brainer.
Cherry Candy. Cutting through these deeper notes is a singular, vibrant cherry note. We felt it was more similar to that of a cherry syrup or tart cherry candy. While this coffee is incredibly balanced, it has a deliciously intriguing acid present in the cup as well.
This coffee is a surefire winner for the folks who want to try an “upper tier” type coffee that’s not overly acidic or fruity in nature. It’s the best-of-the-best when it comes to sweet, balanced coffees.

Farming Notes
Year after year, we’ve been pleased to purchase so many different coffees from our partners at-origin in Nicaragua, Gold Mountain Coffee Growers.
Ben and his team in Nicaragua are leaders of the specialty coffee world when it comes to thorough traceability, ethical practices, and empowerment of the producers they work with.
Gold Mountain Coffee Growers is a social enterprise that works directly with coffee producers in Nicaragua to connect them with roasters abroad. GMCG is on the ground, all the time, teaming up with producers willing to take the steps necessary (and whose altitude and soil conditions allow them) to produce high-cupping specialty coffee. They literally stand on every partner farm during picking to ensure ripeness with refractometers and ripeness bracelets. GMCG also carries out sustainable development projects in communities, such as free computing classes for girls from coffee communities, medical assistance, microcredit, running water in schools, and educational supplies.
In regards to this Microlot, Gold Mountain became aware of the cupping potential of maracaturra some years ago and planted a few trees of it in their coffee variety museum on Finca Idealista.
They then started distributing it for free to member farmers, including gifting seeds and saplings.
Maracaturra is a cross between the enormously big and floral Maragogype variety, and Caturra.
Maracaturra grows less cherries per tree but the cherries are much larger than Caturra.
This coffee is a collaboration between several farmers of Maracaturra and we’re excited for the public to taste this coffee in its washed form, which shows off the incredible cupping notes inherent in the bean.
